On behalf of a client I recently discovered this program.\u00a0 Since Legacy is a not-for-profit health care provider, they have a program to forgive medical debt to those in need.\u00a0 If household income is below 300% of the federal poverty level and no substantial assets exist, then 100% of the medical bill will be forgiven.\u00a0 That means for a single person who earns less than $35,000 per year they will NOT have to pay any medical bills to Legacy.\u00a0 Of course you have to ask for it.\u00a0 For our client we made the request even after Legacy\u2019s collection agency had filed a lawsuit to collect the debt \u2013 they agreed to dismiss the lawsuit without any payment.\u00a0 So, precisely those people whose income makes it difficult to afford health insurance have one more tool to avoid financial catastrophe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
